1. What is the Sparrows Point class action lawsuit about? Top
The Sparrows Point class action lawsuit is a lawsuit that will be filed in Baltimore County, Maryland, in an attempt to obtain financial relief for the residents who have suffered ill effects from the pollution and also to attempt to lessen the intensity of the pollution and its harmful effects in the future.

2. What is a class action lawsuit? Top
A class action lawsuit represents a large number of people, all of whom have very similar complaints. The point of bringing a lawsuit in this way is that it is more efficient because the attorneys can work for the entire class of plaintiffs at the same time, rather than each person bringing a separate, individual lawsuit.

3. Who are the plaintiffs in this case? Top
The plaintiffs in this case are residents of the zip codes 21219, 21052, 21224, 21222, 21012, 21225, 21226, 21060, 21122, and 21056 who have found that the use and enjoyment of their property has been negatively affected by the activities of the industries on the Sparrows Point peninsula. Negative effects include breathing unpleasant odors, experiencing burning eyes, difficulty breathing, nausea, dizziness, experiencing various health problems after exposure to water n the area, and limiting one’s daily and recreational activities to try to avoid the pollution.

4. Might I be a member of the class that this lawsuit represents? Top
If you currently live in, or previously lived in, the zip codes listed, and you have found that your use and enjoyment of your property has been adversely affected by the activities of the industries on the Sparrows Point peninsula, you may be a member of the class of people represented by the lawsuit.

5. What do I have to do to find out if I am a member of the class? Top
By filling out the contact form and giving us your contact information, you can choose to be contacted by a member of our legal team. By answering the brief questionnaire, we can better determine if you have a complaint similar to others joining the lawsuit.

6. Who are the attorneys working on this case? Top
The attorneys working on the case are Bart S. Fisher, of the Law Offices of Bart S. Fisher, Washington, DC, and Alan Silverberg, of Summerfield, Willen, Silverberg, and Limsky, Baltimore, MD.

7. Will my information be kept confidential? Top
When you fill out the contact form and questionnaire, only our legal team will view your information, and it will be kept confidential. If you do join the lawsuit, the attorneys will discuss with you if any of the information will need to be used in court, as evidence to help us with the case. You will be able to decide whether this happens or not, and we will respect and protect your rights according to attorney-client privilege.

8. How might joining the lawsuit benefit me? Top
Once it is determined that you are eligible for the lawsuit, you will benefit, as a member of the class, by sharing any financial award that may be won by the attorneys. Additionally, because this lawsuit draws attention to the negative effects of the pollution that is a byproduct of the nearby industries, we have every hope that the pollution will be better monitored and even decreased through injunctive relief. By joining the lawsuit, you show support of your community members who are also joining the lawsuit in order to make this residential area a healthier and more pleasant one in which to live.

9. Will it cost me anything? Top
There will be no out-of-pocket cost to you to join the lawsuit. We may ask you to come into our office or meet at a designated location in order to gather more information from you. We may also ask you to obtain copies of your medical records. If there is no financial award in the lawsuit, you are not expected to pay us anything. If there is a financial award, the attorneys will take a percentage of the award, according to a contingency fee agreement that we will ask you to sign.

10. How long is the case going to take? Top
An average class action lawsuit may take many months or even years. By gathering all of the information of potential claimants from this website, we hope to be able to begin the process of filing suit in a few months. Then a court date will be set, and you will be told what the schedule is. By your signing on as a member of the class, it will probably not be necessary for you to appear in court, unless you wish to. Updates about the suit will be posted on the website as soon as they are available.

11. How soon do I have to do something if I want to join? Top
Because we are currently in the process of compiling our list of class action members, we would like you to complete and submit the contact form and questionnaire as soon as possible. Someone from our legal team will then contact you shortly. If you would like to find out if you can be included in the suit, we urge to complete the information right away and not to wait.
